To post a tree entry you must have both a Gonzology Forums AND a BioServe username and password.

To register for a Gonzology Forums account, click the "Register" link at the top the Forums page and fill out the forms.

To register for a BioServe go to the BioServe Account Registration page.

To start a new entry go to the Tree of Life Page under Digital Portfolios at this url:

After the Tree of Life Page loads, click on the Entry Index link in the box at the top of the page. After the Tree of Life Entry Index loads, log in using the log in box. Once you are logged in, select the appropriate template in the "Post Tree Entry" menu (ex: Complete) and click the "Create" button.

A tree of life will load. The blue taxa lead to more detailed trees while the red taxa lead to tree entry forms. Browse through the tree until you find that taxa that you wish to post an entry for and click on that taxa.

A tree entry form will load with the several fields depending on the template you selected. If you require a different template, go back to the tree and browse through to find the correct taxa.

In the "Genus species" field, type in the genus and species of the organism (ex: Hystrix cristata) in that data is known.

Note: Italicizing of the genus and species is automatic.

You now need to complete the rest of the forms.

In the "Image" field, make the following changes to the image url--change "your_user_name" to your BioServe Account username while keeping the tilde "~" in front (ex: ~darwin). Also, change "your_image_name.jpg" to the name of the image that you wish to use.

Note: The image being used must be in your "Sites" folder in your folder on bioserve.gonzaga.edu and be no wider than 6 inches at 72 ppi (pixels per inch) with a file size no larger than 100 kb.

If you do not have an image delete the text in the "Image" field.

If you wish to add more images complete one of the remaining "Image" fields with the url to your image.

Finally replace "Insert text here." with your answer to each question. After completing the form, scroll to the bottom and click the "Submit" button.

Once you have posted a tree entry, your name will appear in the Tree of Life Entry Index. You may need to navigate to another page with the "Page" menu and the "Go" button. You can now click on your name to take you to your tree and browse through to find your entry by clicking on the blue taxa and then click on the red taxa to view the entry.
