The Biology Department of Gonzaga University invites applications for two tenure- track Assistant Professor positions in computational or quantitative biology, beginning Fall 2009. One of the positions is specifically for a computational biologist and is funded by HHMI. We seek broadly trained biologists to complement existing faculty.
The specific areas of expertise are open (e.g., biological modeling, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genomics, development, neuroscience, microbial ecology, ecosystems, etc.). We specifically seek to increase our cultural diversity with incentives. Teaching assignments will include upper division courses in an area of specialization, and at least one biology core class (Diversity of Life, Ecology, Cell Biology or Genetics and Evolution). Successful candidates will be expected to develop an upper-division class based on computational analyses and interest in developing cross-disciplinary courses with mathematicians and computer scientists would be a plus. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biology or equivalent; evidence of teaching effectiveness. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
Gonzaga University is a Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic university and is therefore interested in candidates who can contribute to its distinctive mission. Gonzaga is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer committed to diversity. At Gonzaga we use the word diversity to affirm our commitment to an inclusive community where human differences thrive in an environment characterized by mutual respect and the pursuit of social justice. In this context, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, social class, religion, culture, sexual orientation and other human differences all contribute to the richness of our community life. These differences enrich us individually as human beings and collectively as a community striving to fulfill our mission.
