Vice President for Mission and Ministry Appointed

I am pleased to announce that – following the recommendation of the Committee appointed to facilitate the search, and the decision of the Oregon Provincial to mission him to Gonzaga – I have appointed Father Pat Lee, S.J. to the position of Vice President of Mission and Ministry.

Fr. Lee, who previously served as Gonzaga’s Vice President for Mission (2005-08), is a Gonzaga alumnus (B.A. ’69, M.Ed. ’74) who also earned an M.Div from the Weston School of Theology and an Ed.D. from the University of San Francisco.  In 2008, Father General Nicolás appointed Fr. Lee as Provincial of the Oregon Province (2008-2014), and for the past two years he has served as the Superior of Community of the Holy Land – Jerusalem.

Fr. Lee’s previous experience of work in the university, coupled with his extensive pastoral and vocational experience and significant leadership roles in the Society of Jesus, makes him particularly well-suited to support the community in this important role.  The Division of Mission and Ministry at Gonzaga exists to provide mission-relevant information, programs, leadership and pastoral support for our students, faculty, staff, alumni and governing board.  The Mission and Ministry division plays a vital role in our institution and I am excited about the opportunities that will unfold under Fr. Lee’s leadership.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Search Committee and Dr. Ellen Maccarone, Associate Professor of Philosophy, for her leadership of the Committee.  Fr. Lee will return to Spokane from Jerusalem in early August, and will begin his work, on a part-time basis, in advance of the fall semester.  Thank you.
